The Heritage of Raleigh
Workshop Title: Finding Happiness
At Any Age
***The event was attended by senior residents of The Heritage of Raleigh. They were informed by the author Gwendolyn Baines that life is too precious to sit around not enjoying your golden years. Her ONE WOMAN SHOW has been performed in the following states:
NEW YORK, MICHIGAN, GEORGIA,TENNESSEE, ILLINOIS, KANSAS, ALABAMA, WASHINGTON, D.C., and NORTH CAROLINA just to name a few.
This production of SASSY, SECURE, AND OVER SIXTY (named after her book with same title) turns frowns into smiles and people who drag in leave with a skip-to-the-beat motion and attitude.

"Gwen's New Orange Shoes: The Turbulence and Triumphs of a
Single Woman." Autograph party was held at the Acorn Ballroom of
the Marriott Hotel at Vanderbilt.

Ms. Baines presented the workshop "Finding
Happiness at Any Age: By Learning to Deal with the Issues of Life.
She also autographed her books for attendees at the workshop.

Ms. Baines was the speaker for Missionaries' Day
at Zion Baptist Church.

Ms. Baines was the featured speaker at the Black Graduates'
Recognition Ceremony at Vanderbilt University.

A writers' workshop to help unpublished writers
seek a trade publisher or to place their works
on the market by becoming a self-publisher.
March 18, 2000 - Wichita, Kansas
Workshop Presenter at 2000 Women's Empowered Seminar
sponsored by The Community Voice newspaper of Wichita.
Baines presented two workshops: "Sassy, Secure and Over Sixty"
A workshop for females over sixty in helping them to enjoy
their senior years, and to teach them how to rid themselves
of some of the problems they had when younger, such as problem
children and grandchildren and how to get the best out of a
marriage or a casual or deep relationship.
Baines also presented the workshop: "Son I Love You, But..."
This workshop deals with Black mothers trying to rear their
sons so that they can mature into successful young men and
lead a productive life. Although, with racial problems still
prevalent in year 2000, this is a great task for the Black
mother.
February 12, 2000 - Nashville, TN
Performed a ONE WOMAN SHOW of "Sassy, Secure and
Over Sixty" at the Black History Month Luncheon
sponsored by The Anthony J. Cebrun Journalism
Center, Nashville, TN. Event held at Tennessee
State University from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The
program's theme was "Black Journalists Forging
Ahead In The New Millennium."
February 12, 2000 - Brentwood, TN
1:00 p.m. Performed ONE WOMAN SHOW of "Sassy,
Secure and Over Sixty" at the Black History
Month event sponsorec by the Canarian Club of
Franklin, Tn. Event held at the Marriott Hotel
(Cools Springs), Brentwood, TN.
October 1999 - New York
Performed ONE WOMAN SHOW of "Sassy, Secure
and Over Sixty" at four NEW YORK public
libraries. Baines was contracted by the
New York State Public Library System to
perform at the following: The Pomonok Branch
(Thomas Piezzo, Manager) in Flushing;
the Far Rockaway Branch (Auhua Chen, Manager);
the Rockaway Park Branch (Sheila Sherwood,
Manager) and to a standing room only audience
at the East Elmhurst Branch (Johnnie O. Dent,
Manager).
August 7, 1999 - Nashville, TN
Gwendolyn Baines led a LITERARY EXPLOSION
at the Meeting Room of One Hundred Oaks Mall
Highlights of the Literary Explosion were broadcasted on
Cable Channel 19 on Speer Presents.
The Gwendolyn Baines Literary Explosion is a
a workshop geared to help aspiring authors/novelists
to "stop talking and start writing."

"Finding Happiness at Any Age"
This workshop focused on all aspects of your life from re-discovering
your teen-self to growing into adulthood and being able to manage
lifes obstacles. Its focus was on helping the workshop's
participants discover increased finance, find romance and other
enjoyments of life.

Gwendolyn Baines, with other Nashville authors, was featured in
a book signing celebrating Black History Month at the Bookstar
in Belle Meade.
December 12, 1997 - Atlanta, Georgia
Gwendolyn Baines was the keynote speaker for the Women of the
Southern Region's Luncheon (held at Atlanta's Westin Peachtree Hotel).
October 1997 - Nashville, Tennessee
Ms. Baines was the featured guest on local television show "Speer
Presents."

Gwendolyn Baines was one of the featured authors at the Southern
Festival of Books, sponsored by the Tennessee Humanities Council.

Gwendolyn Baines was one of the featured authors at the Literary Cafe of the National Association of Black Journalists. The event was held at Chicago's Hyatt Regency Hotel.
